Im heutigen ESC-Check schaue ich auf das Land Aserbaidschan und der Teilnehmerin Efendi. Insgesamt war Aserbaidschan nur zwölf Mal beim Eurovision Song Contest dabei. Mit „Mata Hari“ könnte Efendi auf jeden Fall weit oben landen!
Viermal hatte Samira Efendis es schon versucht, für Aserbaidschan beim Eurovision Song Contest teilzunehmen. 2019 schaffte sie es dann intern unter die letzten vier Künstler, schließlich wählte man aber Chingiz als Act für Tel Aviv. 2020 war sie dann an der Reihe. Musikexperten, Produzenten, Journalisten und Offizielle des Fernsehens wählten Efendi als Sängerin für den ESC in Rotterdam. Doch wie wir alle wissen: 2020 was cancelled!
„Cleopatra“ meets „Mata Hari“
Dieses Jahr ist es aber endlich soweit und Samira Efendi repräsentiert Aserbaidschan beim ESC 2021 mit dem Song „Mata Hari“. Drei aserbaidschanische Singles veröffentlichte sie im Jahr 2019. In allen von ihnen sind starke Ethno-Elemente herauszuhören. Ihr Song „Cleopatra“, mit dem sie beim ESC 2020 starten wollte, klingt allerdings ganz anders, als ihre vorherigen Sachen. So auch „Mata Hari“
Generell sind sich „Cleopatra“ und „Mata Hari“ sehr ähnlich und wie für den ESC zugeschnitten. Während sie die ägyptische Königin Cleopatra als starke emanzipierte Frau huldigte, besingt sie nun die niederländische Tänzerin und Spionin Mata Hari als verführerische Femme Fatale. Produziert wurde die Nummer von Amy van der Wel, Luuk van Beers und Tony Cornelissen aus der Niederlande. Luuk van Beers war übrigens auch an „Glorious“ von Cascada beteiligt.
Auf jeden Fall ist es ein Ohrwurm und eine tanzbare Nummer, auf die man sich beim ESC 2021 freuen darf. Ein Pferdeschwanz wie Ariana Grande kann meiner Meinung auch nie schaden. Ich bin gespannt. Hier gibt es das offizielle Musikvideo dazu. / Berry
