Die spanische Ausnahmekünstlerin hat ihr mit Spannung erwartetes neues Album „El Mal Querer“ veröffentlicht und der Hype um Rosalía schwappt nun spätestens seit ihrem Auftritt bei dem EMAs 2018 nach Europa rüber. Sie ist mittlerweile nicht nur in ihrem Heimatland ein Shootingstar, der Durchbruch gelang ihr mit dem Track „Malamente“ nun auch weltweit.
Vom britischen Guardian wurde sie als „Gamechanger“ bezeichnet, Spiegel ONLINE prophezeit: „An Rosalía kommt spätestens 2019 keiner mehr vorbei“. Die Kollegen von Pitchfork kürten das Album zur „Best New Music“. Und tatsächlich kommt Rosalía langsam auch bei uns an. Die junge spanische Künstlerin mischt traditionelle Flamenco-Motive mit aktueller elektronischer Popmusik und future R&B.

Ihr aktuelles und damit zweites Album „El Mal Querer“ schrieb die in Barcelona geborenen Künstlerin zusammen mit diversen Songwritern. Als Co-Produzent stand ihr bei den Aufnahmen Pablo Díaz-Reixa (El Guincho) zur Seite. „Es hat zwei Jahre gedauert, ‚El Mal Querer’ zu entwickeln”, erklärt die 25-Jährige. „Eine der treibenden Kräfte hinter dem Album war für mich meine persönliche Überzeugung, dass es nicht nur eine Art gibt, Flamenco Musik zu spielen. ‚El Mal Querer’ ist, wie ich Flamenco hier und heute verstehe.”
„El Mal Querer“ besteht aus einzelnen Kapiteln, die die Geschichte einer toxischen Liebesbeziehung erzählen, mit Höhen und Tiefen, die die Protagonistin zu durchleben hat“. Im Zentrum der Musik steht immer ihre Stimme. Unterstützt von den ursprünglichen Palma und Pitos-Sounds (Klatschen und Fingerschnippen), sowie elektronischer Musik und Sampling, die die Geschichte von „El Mal Querer“ in ihrer ganz persönlichen Sprache erzählt.
„Malamente“ erreichte 50 Millionen Streams
Im Vorfeld waren bereits zwei Tracks (oder Kapitel) aus „El Mal Querer“ erschienen: „Malamente“ (Cap.1: Augurio) verzeichnet mehr als fünfzig Millionen Streams und wurde in Spanien mit Doppelplatin ausgezeichnet. Im Juli wurde „Pienso En Tu Mirá” (Cap.3: Celos) veröffentlicht, das über 35 Millionen Mal gestreamt wurde und in Spanien Platinstatus erreichte. Am 30. Oktober, zwei Tage vor dem Albumrelease, folgte eine weitere musikalische Vorab-Visitenkarte: „Di Mi Nombre“ (Cap. 8: Extásis), begleitet von einem Video, das unter der Regie von Henry Scholfield (Dua Lipa, AlunaGeorge) im Rahmen ihrer US Tour in Los Angeles entstanden war.
Ebenfalls im September gab die Latin Recording Academy ihre „Latin Grammy“-Nominierungen bekannt: Rosalía wird in fünf Kategorien ins Rennen um den begehrtesten Latin Music-Preis der Welt gehen: „Song of the Year“, „Recording of the Year“, „Best Music Video (short form)“, „Best Alternative Song“ und „Best Urban Fusion/Performance“. Damit ist sie die Künstlerin mit den meisten Nominierungen für die 19. Latin Grammy Awards. Im vergangenen Jahr war sie in der Kategorie “Best New Artist” nominiert.
Wir werden also von nun an wohl kaum um Rosalía herum kommen und man darf gespannt sein, wie sie auch 2019 die Welt erobern wird.
